Remote Learning Frequently Asked Questions

Who are you?

We are Omnidome Virtual Reality.  As can be seen by the name, we are a Virtual Reality Arcade Center in Maryville IL, but we are also proud parents of 2 honor roll students.  We understand that it is very difficult for children to focus at home when there are distractions around every corner.  We also know that parents cannot watch their child's every move to keep them on track and learning like they would in school.  This is where we hope to provide some assistance!

Since our business is typically closed during school hours, we have decided to convert our VR Zones into remote learning zones during the day.  We simply want to provide your child with a safe, consistent and fun environment to learn in.

What are your hours?

Hours will be determined by the School Remote Learning procedures and parent input, but we are anticipating the hours of operation to be from 7:30am-2:30pm

How much does it cost?

Our pricing is set at $3.80/hr per student, with a minimum of 5 hours per day.

Do you have a teacher?

We do not have a licensed teacher on staff, however, the person who will be overseeing your children did receive a Bachelors of Science with Magna Cum Laude honors, and we also have an 18 year old honor student who has been tutoring other students for the past 3 years.

Your child's school teacher will still be responsible for teaching your child, but if they ever need assistance we will be there to help. Our goal is to keep your child focused, and in their required zoom meetings or Google classrooms, but ultimately it will be up to your child to do their schoolwork.

How are you keeping our children safe from Covid-19?

Your child's health and safety is and always will be our main concern.  In an attempt to minimize everyone's exposure, we are limiting our enrollment to 15 students and each student will be more than the required 6ft distance from the other students.  For reference, our learning zones are 18ft x 18ft, and will only have 5 students per zone.

In addition, we will be checking each students temperature when they come in, as well as cleaning and disinfecting everything daily.

We also ask that if your child has been in direct contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid-19, please stay home.

If your child is exhibiting any symptoms of Covid, we will immediately separate them and ask that you come pick them up.

Can my child bring a snack?

Yes.  Your child can bring a snack and/or lunch water bottles.  Snacks and lunches must be eaten in the designated lunch area.  If your child needs to have a drink in their learning space, it must be water in either a bottle or sealed container.

You said fun, what kind of fun will the kids have?

We are a Virtual Reality Arcade, so fun is what we do.   Sometimes children need an incentive to do their work, so we are going to try and work with the school to verify that your child has completed their schoolwork each week.  Each Monday, if your child has completed all of the previous weeks assignment, we will allow your child to hang around for 2 hours after their normal remote learning hours to have a little fun!  Unfortunately due to our commercial licensing, we cannot let the kids play VR for free, HOWEVER, we are setting up a system so that your kids can use their smart devices (tablets, phones etc) to play games on the TV's.  This will allow your children to have some fun and interact with the other kids in their zone, while still maintaining a safe distance.

In addition, when first quarter and semester report cards come out, we will have extra bonuses for good grades!  Every A or B will earn them gift cards for a Virtual Reality Session (during normal hours).

Can our children stay later?

If an emergency situation arises, your child will be safe until you arrive.  That being said, our hours will be set, and your child must be picked up at the designated time.  We will still be running the VR Center in the evenings, so we will not be offering afternoon sessions.  We expect the remote learning to be approximately 7:30am-2:30pm (or whatever hours are necessary to complete the remote learning program).  Unfortunately if you need someone to watch your child for a full day, than we are not the right fit.
